Emerging as one of the world’s most exciting artists and DJs, India Jordan makes electronic music that’s high in both energy and emotion — capturing the attention of the scene’s top tier DJs and tastemakers across a series of perfectly-pitched, quietly personal singles and EPs.

After holding down DJ residencies and promoting parties across the UK for the best part of a decade, 2019 saw India finally take the plunge into releasing their own original music for the first time, with an instant impact.

Their debut EP ‘DNT STP MY LV’ was released in May 2019 to great acclaim, with follow-up single ‘WARPER’ cementing their status as one of Europe’s most exciting new talents: both releases ended up in Best of 2019 lists by Resident Advisor, FACT, DJ Mag and Mixmag, while DNT STP MY LV highlight ‘DN4’ was picked as one of Resident Advisor’s Top 100 Singles of the Decade a mere 12 months after release. Following riotous live appearances on Boiler Room and Keep Hush and a contribution to Resident Advisor’s flagship podcast series, The Guardian named India as one of 50 Amazing Musicians to Watch for the year ahead.

If that felt like a strong debut year, India comfortably one-upped it in 2020. Despite having their highest-profile gigs and festival slots to date cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, in May they released ‘For You’ — a six-track EP on Local Action that represented their “largest and most personal” body of work yet and has been talked up almost unanimously as one of the best releases of the year, with the EP’s title track voted as Resident Advisor’s #1 Best Track of The Year, Crack Magazine’s #2 and Pitchfork’s #21, who described the EP as “Some of the most assured electronic music of 2020”. ‘For You’ continues to find new fans daily, with multiple spins on BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music, KCRW, KEXP and more.

A deeply personal release, the titular “You” of the EP’s title actually refers to India themselves, and the record explores themes of sexuality, self-identity and more. The cover art for the EP were shot at Dalston Superstore, a legendary queer venue in East London that’s close to India’s heart. “I've always been really into toilets”, India explains. “They're spaces for me to decompress, sort my head out and get some time away. They're also places I've experienced to be queer. When I was growing up, it wasn't necessarily safe for me to show any public displays of affection with people, so toilets were a safe option.”

Capping off a year for the books, December saw India voted Breakthrough Producer of the Year at the annual DJ Mag Best of British Awards (they were also nominated for Best Track of the Year), and named as Pete Tong’s Breakout Star of 2020 on BBC Radio 1.

Now in 2021 India returns with a new EP “Watch Out!”, a blast of uniquely crafted, high energy dance music, showcasing India’s euphoric, affirming sound at its most potent, marking their first release for Ninja Tune. India describes the record as “a homage to both physical and conceptual movement”, and a result of their own pattern of movement being forcibly changed last year by lockdown.
